Foot Care Is Important To Maintaining A Healthy Lifestyle

A very common health issue these days is foot pain. With longer workdays, and many jobs requiring people to be on their feet for a large portion of their work day, most of us will experience foot pain at one point or another in our lives. There are different types of foot pain that occurs in all places of the foot including the toes, ball, arch, instep, sole, heel, and ankle. As we age, the frequency and severity of foot pain generally increases such as ankle sprains and bone spurs.

The foot is divided into three main parts: forefoot, midfoot, and hindfoot. The forefoot is made up of the toes and the long bones that connect the toes to the foot, also referred to as metatarsals. The midfoot, more commonly referred to as the 'arch' of the foot, is comprised of five tarsal bones that are connected to the fore and hind foot with muscles and ligaments. The hindfoot, or as most refer to it , the "heel" and consists of three joints that connect the midfoot and ankle, including the heel bone. The treatment for each part of the foot depends on the condition and the techniques used by your podiatrist.

Plastic Surgeons Often Choose To Perform An Excess Skin Removal After The New Position Is Established From A Browlift Procedure

A forehead lift will set the eyebrows to a higher level and will stretch out the upper eyelid skin. Often times none of the skin will need to be remove, but if it does, many cosmetic surgeons choose to trim it later after the new brow position has been established. This is so that the two operations will not work against each other and eye closure will not become a problem. With your eyebrow higher set, you will stop wrinkling your brow since there will no longer be a need for conscious elevation.

You May Think You Need Cosmetic Eyelid Surgery When You Really Need A Forehead Lift

A lot of people go into a cosmetic surgeon's office and request an eyelid lift procedure to correct an excess of skin that they have in their upper eyelids. Many times the actually problem lies within their brow and a brow lift is the answer. In these patients, the brow itself has actually fallen and has resulted in a "bunching" of upper eyelid skin. With an aggressive removal of skin during an eyelid lift, typically the brow will be pulled further down which will just make the issue even worse and can sometimes create a tired or weary appearance.

Breast Augmentation in Southern California

Breast Augmentation is quite popular these days, and it is only becoming more popular as time passes. Plastic surgeons are working every day to advance the safety of these procedures as well as creating much more stunning results. Says Santa Monica California Plastic Surgeon Dr Kao of breast augmentation surgery "I like to take into consideration the woman's body type when discussing the size and type of the breast implant. The width of the shoulder and the chest wall have a very important barring on how a particular breast implant will look on a particular woman and the waistline is critical to the size of the breast implant I recommend. "

Equally important for the plastic surgeon to consider are the height and body weight of the patient. Dr Kao's goal for breast augmentation surgery is to create contour that is elegant and pleasing. A well shaped breast is one that gives curves to a woman that is balanced with the waist and hips, without being distracting, uncomfortable and looking awkward in clothing.

What About Liposuction?

What about liposuction? Is it a realistic option for a person who wants to rid him or herself of unwanted weight? Not necessarily. Liposuction surgery is not intended, nor should it be used as a replacement for proper diet and exercise. A good candidate for liposuction surgery is in good overall shape, within 10-20 lbs of his or her ideal weight, and wants to treat the stubborn pockets of fat that are not responding to a regular diet and exercise regimen.

The person should be healthy, both physically and psychologically with realistic expectations about the results of the surgery procedure. The fat removed during a liposuction surgery procedure will not re-accumulate in the treated areas in the same manner as it did prior to the surgery, and in some cases, may leave small scars.

It is popular for women see a plastic surgeon and request liposuction surgery after childbirth. These women have returned to their pre-pregnancy weight, and have some areas of their body with stubborn fat as a result of the pregnancy. Many of these women also find that post pregnancy exercise and diet do not effectively treat the pockets of fat. One common place where many women retain fat is around the outer hips and thighs. These women are ideal candidates because the fat is localized, and is less difficult to remove the fat and sculpt the surrounding area to create the contour the patient desires.

Undoing Sun Damage

Shielding your skin from the summer sun makes good sense, and there are many excellent products that help make it easier than ever. A good sun block with UVA and UVB protection, plus a wide-brimmed hat and sunglasses, should be summer essentials.

But let's face it - most of us already have sun-damage. In fact, much of the visible damage you see in your skin today may be the result of sun exposure when you were a child or teenager. So what can be done to improve your skin now - and then keep it looking fresher and healthier?

To erase pigmentation, reduce fine lines and wrinkles, improve tone and texture and stimulate collagen, we recommend the Active FX laser. Active FX is a fractionated CO2 laser that can be done right in our office with minimal down time.

Chemical peels of varying strengths are a common method for resurfacing (deeper peels) or revitalizing (lighter peels) your skin. Trichloroacetic acid (TCA) has a slight bleaching effect and often is recommended for patients with darker complexions. TCA can be applied to your neck, upper chest and other areas of skin damaged by sun exposure.

If you are looking for a milder treatment that provides improvement in fine lines and skin texture, you may choose a series of glycolic or salicylic acid peels. Glycolic acid, derived from natural sources such as fruit and milk, is used in varying concentrations as a medical-strength peeling solution. Even a single glycolic acid peel performed by your plastic surgeon may produce the freshening effect you are looking for. Another option of a superficial peel is a salicylic acid peel. This treatment will help smooth fine lines and even skin discoloration while reducing the appearance of acne and environmental damage to the skin.

Liposuction is Not a Weight-loss Alternative, But it Can Help With Trouble Spots

No matter how much you diet and exercise, there can be excess fat in certain places that sometimes just won't go away. Liposuction, also known as liposculpting or bodysculpting are all terms to describe removing excess fat cells from targeted areas of the body. Liposuction is used to contour and shape the body and is often used as a complementary surgical technique to facelifts and body surgery. Liposuction is not a weight-loss alternative. It is a treatment for those persistent pockets of fat resulting from hereditary, age and areas unaffected by diet and exercise. The best candidates have good skin with healthy elasticity.

Liposuction is safer and more effective than before due to advances in technology, technique and defined standards. All liposuction is essentially suction-assisted lipectomy, the removal of fat from the body through a form of suction. Tusmescence, a treatment administered just prior to liposuction involves infusing the areas to be treated with a solution to help plump up the fat cells to make them easier to remove, and control the amount of pain and bruising after the procedure. Even though technology has improved and the techniques have been refined, the ultimate outcome is influenced by the surgeon's aesthetic eye. A Plastic surgeon uses small precise instruments to sculpt and create the smoothest contours and the most natural shape.

What Should You Expect From A Cosmetic Surgeon In Orange County?

As with any surgery, the single most important factor in the success of cosmetic surgery is the surgeon you select. Do not take this responsibility lightly. In most states, it is legal for any physician who holds a medical license, with or without surgical training, to advertise as a plastic or cosmetic surgeon. That is why it is essential for you to understand what makes a cosmetic surgeon qualified and research the qualifications of any surgeon that you are considering.

Dr. Dan Mills, a cosmetic surgeon in Orange County California, recommends you choose a doctor who is board certified and affiliated with a reputable hospital, and is up-to-date on what is new in his/her field. Does your doctor offer a variety of techniques? With the right doctor, Breast augmentation procedures can yield marked results.

Dr. Mills has been in practice for over 15 years, with an additional 10 years experience teaching plastic surgery at Loma Linda University, and combines a sense of aesthetics, his surgical skills, and the latest techniques to achieve the results his clients want. He feels it is crucial that his patients find his practice to be a safe and comfortable environment, as well.

"It's very important that you feel comfortable with your doctor," Dr. Mills explains. "You should be able to talk to him/her openly, expressing your concerns. Communication is key in a relationship with your doctor," especially when you're talking about what you want from the surgery.

The Basics Of Breast Enhancement Surgery

There have been varying viewpoints throughout the years about the best kind of implant to use for Breast Augmentation, and health controversies about one kind of implant that dominated news reports in the 1990's. Many women who were interested in having fuller breasts were fearful to do so because of these reports. The following describes the different kinds of implants that are available, and addresses some of the concerns regarding differences between breast implant fill material, shape, surface texture, size, manufacture, and use of implants.

While there are a number of implants available for Breast Augmentation, currently the most commonly used is the saline breast implant. The saline implant has an exterior sack made of solid silicone, which is filled with a sterile saline solution — like the salt-water solution that is administered for intravenous fluids. One of the advantages of this solution is its safety. Should the implant for some reason leak, the saline just gets absorbed by your body, as would the intravenous fluids used during, and after surgery. Yet another advantage of the saline implants is a very low infection rate, which is usually less than one to two percent.

As with any surgical procedure, it is imperative that you consult with an experienced specialist such as Southern California Plastic Surgeon Dr Michael Schwartz prior to the surgery. Be sure to have all your questions answered and you fully understand your chosen procedure BEFORE you have it. Proper research and education and mean the difference between a night mare and a successful surgery.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
It remains that with any elective cosmetic surgery, it is very important for women considering this procedure to be given informed consent. This means that anyone considering having permanent implantation of a medical device is made aware not only of the risks of the operation itself, but also of the lifelong risks of having implants.
